Photo by\u00a0Walter Randlehoff<\/a>\u00a0on\u00a0Unsplash<\/a><\/p> \u00a0<\/p> \u00a0<\/p> The first step that I recommend is to do some reading first.\u00a0 Good first books are \u201cRich Dad Poor Dad\u201d and \u201cYour Money or Your Life.\u00a0 You can find pointers to the URLS using the Books<\/a> tab on this site.<\/p> \u00a0<\/p> Its highly recommended that you find or find someone to take the personal finance journey with you.\u00a0 Chances are that this has already occurred.\u00a0 If you are thinking personal finance already you probably have discussed this with your friends, family, and colleagues.\u00a0<\/p> \u00a0<\/p> My favorite model is to find a mentor.\u00a0 Someone with personal finance experience.\u00a0 Someone who has a rich experience in running business and managing their personal finance.\u00a0 This is the type of person that can bring the most value.\u00a0 And when a person takes on the role of mentor, it infers that role comes without cost.\u00a0 It comes pro bono.<\/p> \u00a0<\/p> There are several reasons to have someone available for personal finance issues.\u00a0 First you will have a sounding board or someone to bounce ideas off.\u00a0 Also, this person may provide difference perspectives and ideas for you.\u00a0 Its even better if this person is looking to improve his or her own finances.\u00a0 The biggest plus with having a finance buddy is that it helps to hold you accountable for achieving goals.\u00a0<\/p> \u00a0<\/p> Note that your financial buddy does not have to be local.\u00a0 It can be someone you chat with on a regular basis either on the phone or the internet.\u00a0 It could also be your spouse.\u00a0 Hopefully you and your spouse are on the same page but let\u2019s save that for another discussion.<\/p> \u00a0<\/p>
